Johns Creek residents have a full Saturday ahead on October 10, with a morning volunteer project at Cauley Creek Park, an afternoon-to-evening Halloween celebration at Autrey Mill, and school and community activities competing for the same family calendar.

The most distinctive local service opportunity is Daffodils4Hope’s annual Dig Day, which begins with sign-in at 9 a.m. near the pickleball courts at Cauley Creek Park.

Volunteers will plant thousands of daffodils along the park’s 5K trail as part of a community remembrance and survivorship project.

Bring gloves, knee pads and a trowel if you have them, because the organizers say on-site tools are limited.

Families, students, businesses and neighbors are invited, but children attending without a parent or guardian need a signed parental-consent waiver.

The morning is designed to be hands-on rather than a drop-in photo opportunity, so wear clothes and shoes that can handle soil.

Organizers also plan coffee, light breakfast snacks and music, making the event a useful way to meet neighbors while doing visible work in one of Johns Creek’s newest large parks.

Later, Autrey Mill Nature Preserve’s 17th annual Spooky Mill runs from 2 to 9 p.m. at 9770 Autrey Mill Road.

The event turns the preserve into a Halloween destination with themed activities, but families should confirm the current admission, age guidance, parking instructions and any timed-entry rules before leaving.

Do not assume that an event listed for a previous year has the same schedule or capacity this year.

For households with teenagers, Johns Creek High School’s calendar also lists the homecoming dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday.

That makes transportation planning especially important for families combining a daytime event with an evening commitment.

The simplest plan is to choose one anchor activity, then leave enough time for parking, walking and weather-related delays.

Cauley Creek and Autrey Mill are both popular destinations, and neither is improved by arriving unprepared or trying to squeeze in too many stops.

Check the Daffodils4Hope organizer page for waiver and volunteer details, the Autrey Mill event information for Spooky Mill updates, and the Johns Creek High School calendar for school timing.

For a citywide look at what is happening around Johns Creek, the Johns Creek Convention and Visitors Bureau calendar is a useful final check.
