For years, Johns Creek residents have heard about a future downtown. That idea is becoming easier to see, but the names can be confusing: Johns Creek Town Center is the larger district and planning vision, while Medley is one major mixed-use development within it.

Together, the projects are changing the area around City Hall, McGinnis Ferry Road, Johns Creek Parkway, Lakefield Drive, and Medlock Bridge Road. The result will be a more walkable concentration of housing, offices, restaurants, retail, parks, and public gathering spaces in the middle of the city.

What is Johns Creek Town Center?

The Town Center is a 192-acre redevelopment area built around the transformation of an older office park. The city describes it as a future walkable town center with a mixed-use retail district, pathways, businesses, parks, and spaces for community events.

That makes “downtown Johns Creek” less a single building or intersection than a connected district taking shape over time. City Hall is already there, and the plan is designed to link civic life, recreation, business, and daily errands more closely than the city’s traditional suburban layout has allowed.

The Boardwalk at Town Center is the public-space piece many residents will experience first. The 20-acre park beside City Hall includes a pond, pedestrian paths, overlooks, an amphitheater, and gathering areas. The city’s parks pages and maps are the best places to check current access, amenities, and programming.

Recent city project work also completed a 15-foot-wide, ADA-compliant trail connection from Medlock Bridge Road into the Boardwalk. The project restored streambank and improved the pedestrian corridor, reinforcing the Town Center’s emphasis on walking and public space.

What is Medley?

Medley is a large mixed-use community inside the Town Center area, near the intersection of McGinnis Ferry Road and Johns Creek Parkway. The city says the project will include retail, restaurants, entertainment, offices, a boutique hotel, multifamily residences, townhomes, and a 25,000-square-foot plaza.

The approved development has been described in city materials with slightly different acreage figures as plans moved through construction and approvals. The durable point for residents is that Medley is a substantial, phased project rather than a conventional shopping center.

The developer’s current public materials list a mix of food, shopping, fitness, beauty, and service tenants. Announced names include Little Rey, CRÚ Food & Wine Bar, Fadó Irish Pub, Summit Coffee, Lily Sushi Bar, Five Daughters Bakery, High Country Outfitters, Sephora, and other local and national operators. Tenant openings and hours can change, so readers should confirm directly before making a special trip.

Medley’s public calendar currently lists a three-day grand opening for October 28–30, 2026. The schedule includes a ticketed preview benefiting the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra, a ribbon cutting, and a family-friendly celebration. Check the official event page for ticket rules, times, parking, and updates.

How the pieces fit together

Think of Town Center as the larger framework: streets, parks, pathways, civic destinations, and multiple redevelopment sites. Think of Medley as a major private development that supplies much of the retail, dining, residential, office, and entertainment activity expected inside that framework.

The Boardwalk is different again. It is a public park and gathering space, not another name for Medley. Keeping those distinctions clear helps residents understand announcements, maps, construction notices, and event listings without treating every Town Center update as a Medley update.

For a first visit, start with the city’s Town Center project overview, then check the parks page or recreation maps for the Boardwalk. For Medley businesses and events, use the official Medley site and its events calendar.

The practical takeaway: this is a living project, not a finished downtown visitors can experience all at once. Expect construction, phased openings, changing tenant lists, and updated public-space programming.

As more pieces open, the most useful version of this guide will keep separating what is open now from what is announced, approved, under construction, or still part of the broader vision.
