Buice Road Bridge Replacement: What Johns Creek Drivers Need to Know This Fall |
The bridge remains closed to through traffic while construction continues toward a fall 2026 completion |

Buice Road’s bridge over Johns Creek remains one of the most consequential active transportation projects for north Johns Creek drivers, especially households that use the corridor between Jones Bridge Road, Old Alabama Road and Spruill Road.
The city says through traffic at the bridge has been closed since March 9 while the bridge is replaced and related pedestrian connections are built.
Drivers should continue using Spruill Road and Old Alabama Road as alternate routes rather than treating the work zone as a short-term lane shift.
The project is being completed in partnership with the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The replacement is intended to raise the bridge in an area that can flood, widen the crossing, and add pedestrian facilities on both sides of Buice Road.
It also connects to the Buice Road Trail project between Spruill Road and Haverhill Lane and the Buice Road sidewalk project near Twingate Drive and Kingston Crossing Circle.
That means the end result is about more than restoring a car route; it is designed to close a missing walking and biking link between major roads and nearby neighborhoods.
The city’s current project description still lists completion in fall 2026, but residents should not plan around a specific reopening day until officials publish one.
Weather, utility work, inspections and final roadway work can move a transportation schedule even when the major structure is substantially complete.
The Buice Road work is one piece of a larger Johns Creek construction picture.
City project pages also track the Abbotts Bridge Road improvements, Barnwell Road corridor work, McGinnis Ferry Road widening, Johns Creek Parkway changes and the Medlock Bridge Road pedestrian crossing and tunnel.
Residents who cross the city regularly should use the city’s construction-project map before choosing a route, particularly when a trip combines school traffic, medical appointments, shopping or park visits.
For a construction question, the city’s Public Works department lists 678-512-3200 as its contact number.
The practical takeaway is simple: keep the Buice Road detour in your normal travel plan, leave extra time when crossing the north side of Johns Creek, and check the official project page before assuming a change has occurred.
Use the city’s bridge project page, the project-progress dashboard, and the construction projects map for the latest public information. |
